THE QUEEN has been graciously pleased, on the occasion of the Celebration of Her Majesty’s Birthday, to approve the award of the British Empire Medal (Civil Division) to the undermentioned:

B.E.M.

Dr. Brian Frank PERRY
For services to the community in Chertsey, Surrey.

Congratulations, Brian! Very well deserved on account of your tireless work to make things better for everyone. The Group are fortunate to have you assistance, and the HQ Project would not be anywhere near completion without your efforts.

Harry Completes IOW Epic

Posted on May 29th, 2019 by tja

On May 29th 2019, Harry from 1st Chertsey Scout Group set out to ride his bicycle around the Isle of Wight in an attempt to complete the 66-mile IOW Cycle Challenge.

The route took him around all of so-called Dinosaur Island presenting some wonderful scenery and difficult climbs in equal measure.

Writing from the road, Harry said:

“We did a chalk ridge extreme trail today, which was more difficult than we both thought it would be, as it was an almost vertical climb, ending in fog where we were so high, so we couldn’t actually see where we were going! Was well worth it though, as lovely views when we were coming down!”

Well done Harry for completing your epic adventure on two wheels!

What’s next! ;)

The Trip in Pictures

If you still want to donate to Harry’s Epic IOW trip, then you can do so online here. All money raised will go towards the new Scout HQ.

Preamble:

Here’s a pic of Harry on his new steed, getting in some practice ahead of the main event.

Beaver Colony Waiting Lists

Posted on September 5th, 2017 by tja

Update September 2017

We are extremely over-subscribed for both Abbey and Bourne Beaver colonies and we have had to close our waiting lists for children aged 5 and 6.
If your child is in current school years Y1 and Y2, we are very sorry, we will not be able to offer a place at Beavers in Chertsey.

Thank you.

Otter the Trotter!

Posted on March 30th, 2017 by tja

On 23rd April this year, our sporty Otter (Phil Boast; Beaver Leader – Abbey Colony) is going for a run! Here’s what he has to say about it:

”
It’s a long, long road…

When I was 8 years old I joined 1st Chertsey Cubs who inhabited an old hut that was probably lucky to survive the war… We moved to a church hall for a while then back to our ‘new’ (refurbished factory) hut which was the best in the district for years and has witnessed 1000s of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts benefit from Scouting…

A generation later and my kids joined the same Scout Group and are better people for it. The hut however has had its day. As a local councillor, the last thing my dad Peter achieved for his community before he lost his fight to cancer was to secure planning permission for our new hut and our next chapter as one of the oldest Scout Groups in the world.

We now need to urgently raise funds for which I’m busy training (destroying my knees) to do the London Marathon for! I can’t set a financial target as we need so much but please, if you can support me in my trial feel free to help.

Not long to go, so I will be nagging.

Boasty x
”

From everyone at 1st Chertsey Scout Group – GOOD LUCK PHIL!!!
