Remembrance Parade 2019

Posted on November 10th, 2019 by tja

A clear and crisp morning greeted members of 1st Chertsey Scout Group today, who joined other community groups in The Act of Remembrance.

Thanks to the local police for their efficient management of the road closures that allowed the parade from Victory Park to St Paul’s church to take place without incident.

We will remember them.

Chertsey Show – 10/11 August 2019

Posted on August 19th, 2019 by tja

Volunteers Urgently Needed!!!

Chertsey Agricultural Show is took place on the weekend of the 10th / 11th August at Chertsey Meads, Mead Lane, Chertsey.

🎉🐴🐄🐖🐔🐍🐝🍅🥒🏅🎪🚗

By far our biggest fundraising event of the year, it was particularly important this year, given the HQ Project that is underway.

It is also the most labour-intensive event – as ever, we manned two car parks, staffed two entrance gates both days, and ran a fairly large catering marquee. 🍔

Many thanks to all those who helped out, contributed cakes, and to everyone who visited our marquee over the weekend. :)

The Group is delighted that our very own Chair of Fundraising – Dr Brian Perry – has been awarded a British Empire Medal in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours.

The full citation reads:

Dr. Brian Frank PERRY
For services to the community in Chertsey, Surrey.

Congratulations, Brian! Very well deserved on account of your tireless work to make things better for everyone. The Group are fortunate to have you assistance, and the HQ Project would not be anywhere near completion without your efforts.

Harry Completes IOW Epic

Posted on May 29th, 2019 by tja

On May 29th 2019, Harry from 1st Chertsey Scout Group set out to ride his bicycle around the Isle of Wight in an attempt to complete the 66-mile IOW Cycle Challenge.

The route took him around all of so-called Dinosaur Island presenting some wonderful scenery and difficult climbs in equal measure.

Writing from the road, Harry said:

“We did a chalk ridge extreme trail today, which was more difficult than we both thought it would be, as it was an almost vertical climb, ending in fog where we were so high, so we couldn’t actually see where we were going! Was well worth it though, as lovely views when we were coming down!”

Well done Harry for completing your epic adventure on two wheels!

What’s next! ;)

The Trip in Pictures

If you still want to donate to Harry’s Epic IOW trip, then you can do so online here. All money raised will go towards the new Scout HQ.

Preamble:

Here’s a pic of Harry on his new steed, getting in some practice ahead of the main event.

Kestrel vs Spinnaker Tower

Posted on April 13th, 2019 by tja

Due to initial safety concerns about high winds Katy Valiant (Kestrel; Abbey Beavers) eventually took on her abseil challenge of the epic Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth on 13th April 2019.

Katy said that the 100m drop was a really exciting experience, and hoped it helped raise awareness and much-needed funds for the HQ Project.

Any further support for Katy can be made here – all money will go towards the new build!

Harvey has been a valuable member of the Group for many years, and though this would be a memorable way to raise funds! You bet it will!

Skydive will take place on 25th August 2018, so get your donations in ASAP.

Is skydiving wearing a Scout scarf allowed?
