Help RBC Meads Litter Pick

Posted on March 30th, 2015 by tja

The Chertsey Meads Management Liaison Group of Runnymede Borough Council are organising a community litter pick at Chertsey Meads.

Meads

Sunday 19th April 2015.
10:00 am
First car park after height barrier/marina.
Gloves, bags and litter picking equipment will be provided. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing (and Scout Activity gear / scarf). Bring refreshments.

Everyone at 1st Chertsey Scout Group (Beavers / Cubs / Scouts / Parents / Leaders / Committee – Yes EVERYONE) is encouraged to support this.

Part of Chertsey Meads was designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in 1975, and English Nature indicated it was:

‘the only remaining Thames flood meadow of botanical importance’.

In addition to it being a tranquil meadow, the Group use Chertsey Meads for a range of outdoor activities, and it plays host to the Chertsey Agricultural Association Show each year. So let’s go and pick up some of the litter, and keep it nice for us to enjoy and wildlife to live in!

Note: Beavers / Cubs / Scouts
This is a perfect opportunity to work towards some badge requirements while having fun and helping improve the local environment for everyone. Please ensure you are accompanied by a Leader or your parents if you are helping.

Rotary Club of Chertsey Donation

Posted on March 23rd, 2015 by tja

The Rotary Club of Chertsey have made a generous donation of £1100 to the 1st Chertsey Scout Group HQ Fund.

The money was raised by a recent Ska Souls gig, held at Thorpe Park, with proceeds going to local charities. The Group are obviously delighted with the donation, and wish to convey their gratitude to Ska Souls and the Rotary for their continued support of Scouting in and around Chertsey. Gary Weber, President of Chertsey Rotary Club, presented the funds to GSL Dave Moore on 17th March.

Subs Increase to £10 from 1st April.

Posted on March 21st, 2015 by tja

Message from the GSL:

As from the 1st April 2015 Group Subscription will be increasing by £1 to £10 per month. The last subscription increase was 2 years ago. As I am sure you will agree Scouting is still very good value for money compared with many other clubs and activities.

For those paying by standing order could you please make the necessary changes with your bank before April subs are due out of your accounts to avoid having to be chased for outstanding subs.

Best,

David Moore

Cooking Comp 2015 004_smallJames, Jess and Bella stunned the judges by preparing a fantastic meal of tori karaage, spinach and daikon salad along with “Auntie Tamie’s daikon-nantoka and Ponzu mayo”.

Cooking Comp 2015 003_smallThe dishes must have hit the spot, as the trio walked away with 1st place.
